From the green pastures of Sand Mountain... We maintain our flock of Heritage cross sheep on pasture continuously. The flock currently consists of a foundation of dual purpose ewes from lines we have developed over many years for their fine fleeces and also for production of gourmet quality lambs with excellent rates of growth. The original ewe flock derived from the Columbia, Southdown and Suffolk breeds and has been mated to Heritage - Gulf Coast rams for the last four seasons to produce lambs which are hardy and well adapted to the environment here in the mountains of the southeast. In 2008, we retained four ewe lambs as replacements toward that goal. We retained an additional five ewe lambs from each of the 2009 and 2010 crops to create the basis of a flock which will thrive and be specifically adapted to the environment of our farm. |
